Electric mobility is establishing itself as a mature transportation solution in France, with increasingly satisfied users and versatile usage, including for long distances, according to an Enedis study.

Enedis's new study, conducted with the CSA institute, confirms the widespread adoption of 100% electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles by the French. Over 96% of users report satisfaction with their experience, a 5-point increase compared to 2025. Drivers cover an average of 15,000 kilometers per year, thus exceeding the average mileage of thermal vehicles.
The versatility of electric vehicles is now evident: 55% of users employ them for both daily commutes and leisure travel, weekends, and holidays. Confidence in autonomy is also growing, with one in two users ready to travel over 600 kilometers without concern. Although home remains the primary charging location for 81% of users, 71% regularly use public charging stations.
Savings on energy and fuel costs are the primary benefit cited by users, followed by driving comfort, quiet operation, and overall driving pleasure. These factors confirm that electric vehicles fully meet current mobility needs.
Despite this positive momentum, charging management, crucial for optimizing consumer bills and the functioning of the electrical grid, remains improvable. Only 32% of users report systematically managing their charging, a rate that has been stable for four years. The development of this practice represents a significant optimization potential for the community.

"To support this dynamic, the charging network continues to develop at a steady pace. France now has nearly 200,000 public charging points, while the total electrical power available on these infrastructures has tripled in three years. Enedis supports this growth by rapidly connecting charging infrastructures, particularly those open to the public. Managing charging points represents an opportunity to optimize charging costs, allowing for savings of at least 15% on the electricity bill by charging at the best time."
