The Athena group, via its subsidiary So Watt, has been developing photovoltaic projects for several years aimed at increasing renewable electricity production and strengthening local skills in the solar sector. The French Development Agency (AFD) supports this initiative by co-financing several of these projects.
In Martinique, So Watt has implemented rooftop photovoltaic power plants, collaborating with local partners and expertise. This program contributes to diversifying the island's energy mix, reducing reliance on fossil fuels by harnessing abundant solar energy, and fostering the emergence of a sector that creates jobs and value.
Currently, this program includes 87 installations, totaling a cumulative capacity of 12,625 kWp. The estimated annual production is nearly 14,400 MWh over an operational period of 24 years in Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Guyane. These projects have enabled So Watt to develop specific expertise in photovoltaics for island and overseas environments.
This approach promotes energy production closer to consumption points by utilizing existing surfaces such as rooftops. Athena and So Watt thus adapt their projects to the realities of island and Guyanese territories, managing the entire lifecycle of the power plants, from design to maintenance.
The AFD supports the energy mix transformation of overseas territories by backing renewable production solutions tailored to their specific conditions. The goal is to continue developing these capacities, strengthening local skills, and multiplying projects that combine renewable energy production with territorial value creation.
So Watt, established in 2018 by the Athena Group to accelerate its eco-responsible approach, specializes in photovoltaic projects in the Antilles-Guyane. The company assists local businesses and stakeholders with their solar projects, from study to completion.
Notable achievements by So Watt include the canopies at the Grand Port de la Martinique, rooftop plants for the Douanes de Cluny, and the Université des Antilles. The company expanded its operations from Martinique to Guadeloupe, where an agency opened in 2025.
