The inaugural Industrial Barometer from FIERE (Industrial Sector of Electrical Grid Companies) assesses the state of the industry, encompassing nearly 1,600 companies and over 120,000 jobs in France. This tool aims to measure facts, anticipate areas of concern, and guide collective actions for the success of planned grid investments.
Based on responses from over 300 member companies, the barometer confirms that manufacturers have prepared for increased demand. Recent investments by grid operators RTE and Enedis exceed €200 billion. This aligns with a global push for grid modernization, with an estimated 80 million kilometers of lines needing construction or replacement worldwide by 2040.
Manufacturers of equipment and cables are investing an average of €180 million annually in their French production facilities, while construction and service companies invest €375 million per year, projecting cumulative investments of €8 to €12 billion by 2040.
However, several tension points require attention, particularly securing supplies of strategic components like copper, aluminum, and power semiconductors. The most significant challenge is skills: the sector estimates a need to recruit nearly 43,000 people between 2025 and 2030. Approximately 81% of employers report strong or critical recruitment difficulties, especially in technical roles and management.
Marianne LAIGNEAU, Chairwoman of Enedis's Executive Board and President of FIERE, stated: 'This first barometer shows that our industrial sector is ready to meet the challenge of France's Great Electrification.' She emphasized the necessity of a stable energy policy and long-term visibility for collective success.
