The construction sector in Nouvelle-Aquitaine experienced a significant 2.1% decrease in salaried employment compared to 2024, according to data published by France Travail. The sector primarily relies on specialized construction work (81%), followed by civil engineering (12%) and building construction (7%). The majority of establishments (84%) employ fewer than 10 people.
Temporary employment shows a sharp decline of nearly 11%, a notable figure given that temporary work only decreased by -3% elsewhere. Despite this, non-temporary hiring between September 2025 and August 2026 remained stable. These hires are predominantly men (90%) and young people under 26 (38%), with 52% being offered a permanent contract (CDI).
These new employees have entered five main activity areas: general masonry and building structural work, electrical installation, painting and glazing, wood and PVC carpentry, and the installation of heating and air conditioning equipment.
Over the past 12 months, employers have specifically sought five profiles: mason, general construction and public works laborer, building electrician, construction machinery operator, and roofer. At the end of the first half of 2026, 30,800 job seekers in Nouvelle-Aquitaine were registered in construction trades, with 32% reporting peripheral barriers, including 23% related to digital skills.
